Let’s give kids in Rwanda a chance to stay in school and get an education
Published on 08/05/19This month, Oney Insurance team launched the “food for kids” project to support schoolchildren in Rwanda.
The goal of this staff initiative, proposed by our Rwandese teammate, is to raise some money for the Groupe Scolaire of Bitandara. It is a primary school where repeats and dropouts are recurring issues. The rate of school dropouts is astoundingly high, particularly as some families cannot afford to pay for school-lunch programs for their children.
A donation event was organised to raise awareness among the team. We wanted to collect some funding to fight hunger in this school in Rwanda and to provide kids with a better chance to stay in school. Thus, staff were invited to bake some savoury and sweet cakes for all to enjoy against a donation for this cause.
There is still a long way to go to solve social and economic issues around the world… But one way to start is with the basic need that is food. Our idea is to help by giving kids in Rwanda a better and more hopeful future, where education is accessible to everybody.

- In 2018, the World Bank reported a 38% stunting rate among children in Rwanda. It is amongst one of the top 20 poorest countries, according to Rwanda – Open Data for Africa.
- 152 out of 156 unhappiest populations, according to World Happiness Report 2019.
