For many years Oney has been the preferred partner of the Group’s large retailers (Auchan, Leroy Merlin, Norauto, Boulanger), but also non-partner brands specialized in e-commerce.

Role Overview

Oney Insurance is expanding, and we are looking for a Senior Legal Officer to take ownership of significant legal matters across both our Life and Non-Life insurance activities.

This is a market-facing role, requiring a strong ability to engage with partners and outsourced service providers, navigate complex regulatory and contractual scenarios, and propose pragmatic solutions where others may see barriers. You will collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, playing a key role in supporting the company’s strategic development.

Key Responsabilities

As Senior Legal Officer, you will be a core advisor to business and operational teams, ensuring activities comply with applicable laws and regulations and supporting the company’s growth with sound legal expertise.

Your responsibilities will include:

Regulatory & Corporate

  • → Monitoring and interpreting insurance regulatory developments (Life & Non-Life).
  • → Handling corporate governance matters, statutory documentation, and Board support.
  • → Providing tax-related legal advice in coordination with internal/external experts.

Contractual & Commercial

  • → Drafting, reviewing and negotiating:- Insurance policies
    - Brokerage agreements
    - Third-party administration protocols
    - Outsourcing contracts and SLAs
    - Commercial agreements with partners and distributors
  • → Managing the contractual lifecycle, ensuring timely updates, renewals and archiving.

Distribution & Operations

  • → Reviewing and approving insurance distribution processes and partner customer journeys.
  • → Ensuring compliance with IDD and other applicable frameworks.

Litigation & Complaints Management

  • → Supporting and coordinating litigation management.
  • → Acting as the company’s MFSA-appointed Complaints Manager, as mandated by the MFSA Conduct of Business Rulebook, ensuring full compliance with regulatory obligations for complaints handling, reporting, monitoring and oversight.
  • → Overseeing complaints handling framework, ensuring timely investigation, resolution and root-cause analysis in line with regulatory standards.
  • → Liaising with and appointing external law firms where necessary.

Cross-Functional Support

  • → Providing legal risk assessments for new products, business models and projects.
  • → Acting as a trusted legal advisor to internal teams and external partners.
  • → Supporting all other legal matters handled within the Legal Department.

Who are you?

Qualifications & Experience

  • → Master’s degree in French Insurance Law.
  • → Minimum 5 years’ experience as a legal officer within an insurance company, brokerage firm, or insurance regulatory authority.
  • → Strong knowledge of Life and Non-Life insurance frameworks, distribution rules, and outsourcing requirements.
  • → Native or fluent French, with very good written and spoken English.
  • → Comfortable with IT tools, including strong proficiency in Excel.

Soft Skills

  • → Strong interpersonal skills and ability to understand stakeholder needs while communicating legal constraints clearly.
  • → Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and composure.
  • → Solution‑driven mindset: you identify issues but primarily focus on proposing workable solutions.
  • → Native or fluent French, with very good written and spoken English.
  • → Comfortable with IT tools, including strong proficiency in Excel.
  • → Adaptable to a dynamic, evolving environment with a positive and professional attitude
